These post cards brought back memories of my 8th class field trip to San Francisco in April 1951 President Truman had just fired General Douglas MacArthur. MacArthur advocated for expanding the conflict by directly confronting China and even suggested the use of nuclear weapons. He publicly criticized Truman's policies, particularly his decision to limit the war's scope and to avoid provoking a larger conflict with China and the Soviet Union. MacArthur had just left San Francisco when our class arrived.
